Translating site content
This FAQ item will guide a user through the process of translating site content (including but not limited to contributed articles) using the adminstrative back-end of the site. See the Translation process overview for more information about the multi-lingual aspects of this site and the overall translation process,

- Log in to the administrative or back-end part of the site (adding "/adminstrator/" to the site's normal URL) - if you are not permitted to do this then read Registering on this site.
- Click on the Components menu and in the drop down menu click on JoomFish.
- Click on the Translations icon (or JoomFish menu item).
- Using the two drop-down selectors on the right hand side of the screen, choose the language you translate to, and the type of content you want to translate. This choice will often allow you further filtering options that you may wish to use. Please translate only the folllowing types of content:
A. Contents - This will show all the contributed articles on the site and indicate where translations are missing, incomplete or have not been published;
B. Menus - This will show all the menu labels on the site and indicate where translations are missing, incomplete or have not been published;
C. Modules - These will show all the labels produced by modules that are used on the site to publish content and indicate where translations are missing, incomplete or have not been published;
D. Sections and Categories - These will show all the information sections and categories on the site and indicate where translations are missing, incomplete or have not been published;
E. Contacts - This will show all the contact information on the site and indicate where translations are missing, incomplete or have not been published; and
F. Weblinks - This will show all the useful external weblinks listed on the site and indicate where translations are missing, incomplete or have not been published. - Click on the content item in the displayed list that you would like to translate. You will be taken to a screen that shows the original content elements and has labels/fields for you to enter the translation for each element. Please do not translate or change any Alias or Parameters fields. For Alias and other labels where translating is not appropriate you should use the Copy icon to place a copy of the English original into the translation.
- In some cases you may also need to upload and link to a translated document (that you have already translated) to replace an English language document in the original article. There is separate FAQ item on linking to a file you upload - this applies to any uploaded non-image file, whether it is PDF or doc etc. You simply need to use this process within the JoomFish translation window. There are (or should be) separate folders for each of our languages so that these translated files can be stored first by language.
- When you have completed your translation, click on the Published check-box (normally on the right hand side of the screen) and then on the Save button. Should you be part way through a translation or want someone else to check it before it is published to the site, then you can leave the Published check-box unchecked.
- Please ensure that you do either Save or Close the translation page. If you do not do this and simply close your browser window, the item will remain checked out to you and no-one else will be able to edit or translate that item until you or an administrator checks the item in.
- That is the process. Of course it would be good practice to check your newly translated content on the live site to see that you are happy with the results.
- Exceptions - below are listed specific exceptions to the above process that are needed to translate a couple of items:
A. Share this Page module: The "Help Us!" label is a parameter on the Modules | Share this Page - do translate this parameter (but only this one). The "Tell a Friend" button text is hard coded and not able to be translated via JoomFish.
B. Update Alerts for this Page module: The "Click for an RSS Feed" label is a parametr on the Modules | Update Alerts for this Page - do translate this parameter (but only this one).
C. The Home Page title "Help Ghana's Free World Foundation make the world a safer place to live" is a parameter on the Menus | Home - do translate this Page Title parameter (but only this one). - Please also redo steps 1-4 regularly to identify any new or changed items that need to be translated. These will be identified by a yellow light bulb indicator. In some cases these will be relatively trivial changes in the original items, but you will need to check the item and Save the translation to clear the Incomplete or Changed yellow light bulb indicator.
